Michelle R. Ritter, M.D.

Dr. Ritter has been a Shreveport Hand Surgeon since 1999, and has been elected consistently as SB Magazine's Top Hand Surgeon by her colleagues. She is board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and has achieved the Certificate of Added Qualification in Hand Surgery.

Dr. Ritter developed an interest in hand surgery after undergoing surgery to repair a nerve injury to her hand, and chose to pursue a career in orthopaedic hand surgery. She completed orthopaedic surgery training at LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport before returning to Wake Forest University for fellowship training in Hand Surgery, training with internationally recognized hand surgeons. Dr. Ritter is the most experienced wrist arthroscopist in this area, treating patients from all over the tri-state. She works closely with hand therapists, who are crucial contributors to hand recovery, and can often help the patient avoid surgery completely. "There is great satisfaction in seeing someone regain function they didn't think possible, and improving one's quality of life. It is important that patients participate in decision making and understand their role in recovery. We can then work together to achieve their goals."
